Dannii Minogue has been busy performing at G-A-Y and auditioning hopefuls for series five of the X Factor alongside Simon, Louis and Cheryl, with the first programme airing on Saturday. She's also the cover star of this month's Cosmopolitan, where she talks about surgery, her co-judges and Kylie. Here are the highlights:

  • On being single: "I’d give it all up for the right man … but he’d have to be amazing … I spend six months in the UK and six months in Australia. Where am I going to find a man who’ll do that?!"
  • On plastic surgery: "I don’t mind it, and I don’t mind other people having it. I’ve had botox because I want to be the best I can be and look the nicest I can look … There’s no right and wrong – it’s a personal choice. It didn’t make me happier though. I think if you link any form of cosmetic surgery into happiness then you’re never going to be happy. It’s not about being perfect and that’s where people get it wrong … If you’re thinking about getting surgery to be perfect, then you’re never going to be happy."

To find out what Dannii said about Cheryl and Sharon, plus her difficult 2007, and her exciting plans with Kylie, just read more

  • On Cheryl Cole and Sharon Osbourne: "I think she (Cheryl) is great. She’s very knowledgeable about music and I think she’s going to bring a new side to the show. On the third day of auditions, I remember she was talking about urban music and telling Simon, 'This is what the show needs; this is where you’ve been going wrong.' She has a go at Simon every minute, which he loves.
"I had such a hard time being the new girl last year and I didn’t want her to suffer the same … Sharon and I just didn’t click. She made constant comments about me, saying I was just there because of my looks. It was upsetting because I’ve watched and loved all her stuff … and always picked her out as a real woman’s woman. But I didn’t have that experience with her. It’s hard to admire someone and then have your illusions shattered."
  • On her difficult 2007: "[Sharon] was the least of my problems last year … Right when Kylie was given the all clear, my best friend died of cancer. It was the most painful thing I’ve ever had to deal with.
"I knew if anyone asked me a question about it I would literally melt, so I had to keep it private. And that’s not me. I hate bottling things up … I was an absolute mess … I really looked up to Kylie and I saw there is a time and place to deal with your emotions, and it’s not publicly.
"It was such a year of learning about myself. I learnt I have this very quiet strength inside I didn’t realise I had … If you spend ten minutes wallowing, you have to make yourself put the same time and effort into thinking, ‘life is great’ – it’s the only way."
  • On her plans with Kylie: "Yes [we have plans to duet]. It’s about finding the right thing and the right time. I miss singing, so I’m planning to do some more next year."

I'm pretty excited about Dannii and Kylie's duet, and the new series of the X Factor! The full interview appears in the September issue of Cosmopolitan, out now.

Eugh, Simon couldn't of picked two worse judges for me (Danni and Cheryl).

I am really crazy about Cheryl. Dannii on the other hand is hardly ever there and never says anything worth saying, she just says 'Yeah! absolutely!' when asked if someone is going through. I think Cheryl's being pretty brave in telling it like it is.
