Ravishing Russell Poses Across The Pond

As the BBC takes the questionable phonecall controversy ever higher today with the BBC Trust chairman and director general weighing in, and Andrew Sachs is set to make an appearance on Coronation Street, Russell Brand has escaped the UK and is still in the US. He was out being photographed for GQ magazine over the past few days, not sharing as many smiles as he displayed playing football earlier this month, but plenty of moody sultry looks for the camera lens. Keeping out of the way and working hard in the States definitely seems like the right thing to do, but I can't wait until the British Comedy award nominee comes back to our shores.

Russell Brand made the trip from the sandy beaches of LA to the dark streets of New York City yesterday for his appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman, after performing stand-up in Hollywood on Sunday night. During his routine he read out an email he'd sent to Serena Williams after being "mesmerised by her strong thighs". He also spoke about his fantasies about the tennis ace, having first mentioned his interest in her a few months ago when an assistant on Jonathan Ross' show gave him Serena's email address. Could this be a future game, set and love match?

It's great to see Russell Brand smiling again after those difficult times last week. Although he's left the rain and wind of the UK for the sun and sand of LA, he's taken his love of football with him and enjoyed a kick about with pals including fellow footy fan David Baddiel. His beanie and sunnies are a far cry from the hat and eye patch he might be donning soon if he gets the part of Jack Sparrow's brother in the next Pirates of the Carribbean film, but regardless of what happens in the future, it looks like Russell's enjoying the present again.

Russell Brand is apparently in negotiations to play the younger brother of Captain Jack (aka Johnny Depp) in the fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie! Reports today suggest he could earn up to £5million for the role, and even if this is a nice fluffy bit of publicity for Russell after his recent mishaps I have to say I think it would be a lot of fun. I loved his turn in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and I think the craziness of Captain Jack and Captain Jonathan would be rather amusing. But what do you think? Jonathan Ross Off For 12 Weeks, Radio 2 Controller Quits

Jonathan Ross has been suspended from all broadcasting on the BBC for 12 weeks without pay, following the prank he played on Andrew Sachs with Russell Brand during the latter's BBC Radio 2 show.

Lesley Douglas, Radio 2 Controller, has resigned from her post, saying she offered her "personal apology to Andrew Sachs and his family and to the audience for what has happened".

She also said: "The events of the last two weeks happened on my watch. I believe it is right that I take responsibility for what has happened".

This follows Russell Brand's resignation yesterday. He mentioned Noel Gallagher in his statement, and the Oasis singer has come forward to publicly support Russell.

2008 NTAs: Davina Discusses Russell and Jonathan's Dilemma

Last night I attended the National Television Awards to get all the gossip from the myriad of TV stars that attended! It was a chilly night outside the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the ladies in their glam frocks were rushing down the red carpet to get in from the cold. One person who took her time though, was Davina McCall. She stopped to answer a few questions before the ceremony and talked acting, all things Big Brother, and the BBC controversy. Davina was animated, so friendly and enthusiastic when chatting to me last night, and her hubby Matthew was stood by her side watching proudly. Here's what she had to say:

On Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross: "Lets all just get over it. I haven't heard it myself, but I think a lot of people are passing judgment without having heard it, and I think it's important that we hear what they said and how it was meant before we complain. I think we've got a culture of complaining sometimes and... I've only read it. On paper it looks pretty bad. but a friend of mine who's heard it said 'you know they really didn't mean it that badly, please go and listen to it'. So I said OK, and I'll go and listen to it tonight. I'm not sure if the apology was quite heartfelt enough, but again I'm slightly inclined to forgive them — they're comedians — but I think they need to do a bit more of a heartfelt apology and then I'm over it. We still want them around! Personally, I'm not that keen on comedy at somebody else's expense, but they are funny, those guys, and you can't deny that."
On E4 series Dead Set: "If I had a list of ten things to do before I die, being a zombie would be on there."
On acting: "Obviously I don't act, and I was [doing this scene where I was] falling and I thought 'there's nothing I can do about it, I'm falling this way I can't stop myself' so I just did it. Jaime Winstone said 'I'd copy that.'" Beams cheerfully "Yeah thanks, that's me, I'm an actor."

Russell Brand Resigns From BBC!

Russell Brand has just issued a statement on BBC News 24 saying that he's resigning from his BBC Radio 2 programme. He said:

"I have apologised to Andrew Sachs... and he has graciously accepted. As I only do the radio show to make people laugh I've decided that given the subsequent coverage I will stop doing the show."

This announcement follows the earlier news that he and Jonathan Ross were both suspended by the corporation pending further enquiry into the prank they played on Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs.

Andrew told BBC News 24: "I respect his decision, I hope he moves forward. I really hope he does."

Jonathan Ross has also issued an apology, saying: "I am deeply sorry and greatly regret the upset and distress that my juvenile and thoughtless remarks on the Russell Brand show have caused".

BBC director General Mark Thompson has just announced that Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross are to be suspended and all their shows taken off air until the BBC has investigated the prank calls they made to Andrew Sachs during a show on Radio 2. Russell put on a brave face as he ran errands around London yesterday, but today the situation has become all the more serious, after 10,000 complaints were made and Prime Minister Gordon Brown said the prank was "clearly inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour". When I asked you what you thought about the situation, the majority of you thought the prank was hurtful: do you feel this latest action is justified?

Was Russell Brand's Voicemail Funny or Hurtful?

Russell Brand does get himself into trouble. If you've listened to his radio show or podcast, you know it's a rambling, often rude, flowery and stuttering trip through Russell's life and experiences. Usually it's a lot of fun. But in the show broadcast on October 18 Russell phoned Andrew Sachs — the actor best known as Manuel in Fawlty Towers — four times with Jonathan Ross, leaving lewd messages about Sachs' granddaughter on his voicemail. Russell has overtly apologised, albeit undermining it slightly by making light of it with Simon Amstell (listen here) but what do you think? Was Russell out of line with this?Source

W. Wows At London Film Festival

Some of the stars of W. turned out on the red carpet for the London Film Festival premiere of Oliver Stone's George W. Bush biopic last night. Elizabeth Banks looked absolutely stunning on Oliver's arm in her shimmering dress, the President himself Josh Brolin wore a rather dapper suit, and Thandie Newton aka Condoleeza Rice showed up with her man Ol Parker. On the red carpet Josh talked about being approached for the movie, saying: "I didn't understand what he [Stone] was going for. I thought Oliver had an agenda. It wasn't until I read the script that I realised it was a brilliant character study." I've got to say I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie!

Brand's Back with Another Booky Wook

Russell Brand was at the Prince Charles Cinema in London yesterday to promote his new book Articles of Faith, which brings together his football columns for The Guardian and follows on from the first collection, Irons in the Fire. He's becoming quite the wordsmith these days, what with his autobiography, My Booky Wook, and his £1.8million two-book deal. It's always nice to have Russell back on our shores, and after the death threats he received following his MTV VMAs appearance, I expect he's happy to be home too. With a new series of Ponderland starting next Thursday, and the DVD of series one out in November, we'll have lots of Russell on our screens.

Comedians Converge on No Man's Land

Comedians came out in force for No Man's Land's press night at the Duke of York's Theatre last night. The play has transferred from its run at Dublin's Gate Theatre to London, and the stars of the show were joined by playwright Harold Pinter as well as Eddie Izzard, Rob Brydon and Dominic Cooper. David Walliams happily posed with his mother Kathleen as well as his costar Michael Gambon, who's also currently on the big screen in Brideshead Revisited, while Russell Brand brought a touch of Hollywood glamour to the night in his shades. What a lovely bunch of blokes!

Helen's Lusted After By Tempest Costar Russell

Helen Mirren was at the GMTV studios this morning, looking gorgeous with her red accessories. On Russell Brand's latest Radio 2 podcast, he told the injured Noel Gallagher that he has a beard for his part in a new adaptation of The Tempest, starring Helen. This being Russell, he then went on to describe his plans to get with her — with Noel's encouragement — saying "I am going to seduce that Queen."

Helen would have heard of Russell's plans following this week's Pride Of Britain awards, when he claimed:

"She is so hot. There's something about her that drives me wild. She's so sexy and enchanting, just look at her form. They're going to have to hold me back when we start work. I'll be all over her. I don't know how I'll get any work done."

Well, when you remember he generally uses his radio show to chat up famous women, I suppose chatting Helen up will be his work. I'm sure he'll reveal all to the nation's airwaves! Provocateur Party Presents Daisy, Kate and Kelly

Kate Moss showcased her glam evening look yesterday as she arrived at the Agent Provocateur party at Dolce in London last night. Daisy Lowe stepped out after the show fully dressed and fully made-up thanks to her risque modelling stint during the evening, where the born to be body-confident girl got down to just some tiny knickers and not much else. She's a brave girl!

Kelly Osbourne and boyfriend Luke Worrell also turned up for the show, and caught up with Kate before she headed off to Vendome. No word on whether she bumped into Russell Brand, who was also at Vendome in some big superstar shades. He discussed his America-offending hosting stint at the VMAs on his most recent Radio 2 podcast, which was co-hosted by Simon Amstell, and had me giggling an awful lot. I'd recommend it!
